Why is gratitude important?
We often take something that have a great deal for us for granted.
It’s like we have to loose it before we realize the value of it.
Bob Proctor says:
Gratitude is the attitude that hooks you up to your source of supply.
Many teachers and philosophers have always taught us in history that we become what we think about.
You might remember if you have seen The Secret, John Assaraf saying:
You become what you think about most, but you also attract what you think about most.
Attitude of gratitude can simplify your life dramatically. We become what we think about most, and by being grateful, we attract the things we want, instead of complaining and attracting what we don’t want.
Wallace D. Wattles, in his great book, The Science of Getting Rich, he wrote:
The whole process of mental adjustment and atonement can be summed in one word, gratitude.
Reacting vs. responding
When you react to a situation, the situation is in control of you. When you respond to the situation, you are in control of the situation.
If someone said bad things about you, and you get angry, the situation is in control of you. If you respond and say “He/she is like a little child, he doesn’t know any better”, and just move on, you stay in control.
Growing up, like many parents, our parents taught us to be grateful. Every night we would praise the Lord, by saying as simple as ‘thank you.’
Funny gratitude story
There was an ad on the TV about protecting the environment, and the song in the end was something like: “thank you for using the bin/garbage”.
And the song was really catchy, my little niece loved it. So one night before she went to the bed and was so sleepy, she said: “Lord, thank you – for using the garbage.”
Develop an attitude of gratitude
Developing an attitude of gratitude, have simplified my life. Even in the midst of stress, I can calm myself easily.
Even in the airport, if your plane is delayed, you can say: ”I’m so grateful for the opportunity to fly across the oceans, and be in a different place in the world in just hours.”
